Thread on Olympiakos defender Konstantinos Tsimikas, the Greek left-back Liverpool should be all over this summer:
• At 24 years of age, Tsimikas will be probably be entering the peak of his career in the next few years, much like Robertson. Coming from the Greek league, it’d surely be widely accepted that the Greece international would accept a rotational role in the squad.
• After multiple loans in the Danish and Dutch leagues, Tsimikas has been an ever present for Olympiakos the past two seasons. He has made 42 appearances in the Greek Superleague since the start of the 18/19 season, showing his reliability.
• The rapid full-back has also played 24 times in the Champions League and Europa League since his integration back into the side. He has the experience that could be needed in European matches if an injury, suspension or poor run of form was to hit Andy Robertson.
• This season, the 24-year old has registered 7 assists across all competitions. This doesn’t originally seem too much for a full-back, but is quite impressive upon the realisation that Andy Robertson has managed 12 in all games this season too.
• This becomes even more impressive when realising that Robertson has made 49 appearances this season, which is 2 more than Tsimikas has made in the past TWO seasons, yet he has only registered 5 more assists. This shows that the Greek defender is similar in ability.
• Tsimikas has also been part of 9% of all of Olympiakos’ goals in their domestic league, with Robertson being involved of 16% of ours, in 16 more games.
• The full-back is also known for being extremely quick down the left-flank, allowing for overlapping runs from his left-sided forward, much like the relationship between Robertson and Sadio Mane.
• Much like Liverpool’s two famous full-backs, and everyone else in Klopp’s team, Tsimikas has a phenomenal work rate. He is prone to bombing up and down the pitch for the entirety of games, and rarely halting his pressing of the ball.
• Tsimikas is also familiar with some English opposition, facing Wolves, Arsenal and Tottenham in Europe. His team beat Arsenal 2-2 on away goals, draw and lost to Spurs and drew with Wolves and are awaiting the second-leg in August. He also kept Traore quiet.
• He’d come extremely cheap as well. Back in early June, it appeared Tsimikas was set to join Ligue 1’s Nice but it seems this move has strangely died for no apparent reason. A fee of £7.2M plus add-ons was agreed, meaning he could be signed for peanuts.
• With our seemingly limited transfer budget and the way we play with attacking full-backs, Tsimikas seems the perfect fit for the Reds. Cheap, rapid, prone to a cracking ball and picks up assists often. Get him in @LFC. 🇬🇷🔴
