Early in the pandemic we had so little insight into what worked and what didn’t work. At the hospital I worked at, everyone...<everyone> was placed on hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, and zinc...among other “kitchen sink” efforts as things went to hell around us.

Quick 🧵:
There were no miracles. No hidden recoveries or secret successes. I wish every day that there had been. I might have a few less sleepless nights these days.
Since then, volumes of literature have given a little more clarity into what’s effective, what’s ineffective, and what’s dangerous. We’ve all talked about so much of that on here.
I’ve run the codes caused by the cocktails. I’ve spent endless hours pouring through the studies, and every day of my life is spent on nothing but Covid.
There are communication barriers and mistrusts that I feel we may never repair, and a smoldering anti-intellectualism that has been lit afire by fear.
But..

There are no grand conspiracies. No wool pulled over eyes and no surreptitious plots—just scientists and clinicians all over the world who have dedicated their lives to the care of others, and who work every day for their fellow humans.
We’re making it through this, though. The times ahead are brighter than the times behind us, and I’m optimistic for the months to come.

Have trust. Have empathy. Have compassion.

Tomorrow’s a better day.
