At one instance the waxing & waning phases of the moon are represented as gods Varuna & Mitra. On the new moon night offerings are made to these two gods, the seeding that is referred here is simply changing of the phase from dark to bright And there’s no sax involved at all.

It’s quite common in the Vedic texts to represent celestial and ritual events metaphorically with gods.
