Disallowing honest engagement with the well earned claims in the piece highlights what a farce this all is and only *PROVES THE ARTICLE’s POINT.* Why self-immolate your integrity like this?

This was such a “gimme” for @Sojourners to get right on, yes even after the original censorship of Eric Martin’s piece. Instead, @jimwallis doubled down. But for what it’s worth, the “larger & troubling pattern” cited in Daniel’s resignation letter isn’t exactly a secret...
But this recent, glaring example of @jimwallis self-immolating the integrity of *his own main talking point* by clearly kowtowing to an institution (not exactly known for cleaning house w/o *massive* pressure) has me deeply concerned about viability of @Sojourners going forward.
Much love and light to @DanielJCamacho in this difficult transition, and to @Sojourners friends and contacts there now and from yesteryear. Grateful for all you’ve done and do and most importantly for who you are, and have been to me.

I don’t make the call for @jimwallis’ resignation lightly at all. But a wake up call is clearly needed over there. The flailing show of white patriarchy, fragility, & supremacy by Wallis throughout this would be laughable if it wasn’t so predictable & dangerous.
BIPOC (now formerly) from @Sojourners are telling us @jimwallis’ behavior the past two weeks are part of a pattern - a larger cultural one. The fact that BIPOC seem to be only ones willing to take the professional hits here for safety & integrity so far only proves their point.
These power moves (because of editorial revolt) & flailing from @jimwallis the past three weeks don’t happen in a vacuum. The patterns @Sojourners pointed out by BIPOC who left aren’t exactly a closely held secret these many years.

My heart breaks for the editors & staff there, forced to reckon with a most acute breach of trust in the power structure of an organization that sustains them & brings life to many. Many are friends or acquaintances.
To learn @jimwallis’ double-down in public was but a *taste* of the white-man defensiveness & toxic ‘Christian’ manipulation he was trying to wield behind scenes is why I’m calling for his resignation. To see BIPOC carry that weight & have him still in place *is* white supremacy.
I’ve been called in/out plenty, because I’ve fucked up plenty in this work. I will again. But I’ve learned as I’ve grown & if I have any trust it’s because the 1st most important lesson is to shut the FUCK up & sit down when BIPOC you work with say they’ve been hurt (by you).
I am not an insider @Sojourners but I do know that. I pray for all staff there during this tumultuous time, because the pandemic makes everything so much less secure. But what we experienced in Charlottesville through this summer makes some things very clear.
I pray for the most robust severance packages possible for the brave BIPOC editors and writers who withdrew their efforts from @Sojourners for their own well-being.
