“Detail is not everything” is often repeated by modern art defenders. But most modern artists lack the technical skill to build the ~soul~ of a piece. Here is some concept art from Lion King that although not perfect in detail, are emotionally and functionally brilliant.
Most modern artists believe just because they are “scribbling” too, their scribbles should also be considered art. But technical skill is most evident at this fundamental level of the drawing stripped down of detail, where the artist can communicate with just a few lines.
First principles of artistic skill are so powerful they impact every single line that an artist can draw. In a finished product, everything is perfect not merely because of the “details” but because one can detect this underlying perfection.
