With the #fpl season over, and only a few weeks before we get our fresh £100m, I decided to take a look at a stat I've always wondered about. Starting price Vs. final performance, namely trying to understand where your £s are best spent in those first weeks. MY FIRST THREAD
To start with, I'm excluding any players <400mins as they'll skew the data. I decided to look at points per minute, and then refer this back to the players starting price, to see if any insight can be gained from this. This will be represented as PPM per £1m of starting price
Firstly, I took a look at each pos. as an individual group, and their starting price (GK/DEF etc) but the sample size was too small to glean anything useful from this, so we've simply gone with players starting price, vs. the final points per minutes played regardless of position
Below is the result, but what does this show us? There is a clear negative correlation between premium assets and their PPM/£1m starting price (~20% less Points for each £1m spent vs. their budget counterparts)
Main points for me:
1- Premium assets are really only for captaincy. your £'s are more effective elsewhere
2 - Spending hours finding those elusive £4.0 starters is WORTH IT. The Lord, Williams, Kelly, Martin, they reward the £ you spend on them
What are your thoughts??
