I’m so sorry for my earlier tweet that oversimplified a complex issue and for not understanding how hurtful that would be to trans women. Trans women absolutely are women and I have always stood for trans rights. I am horrified and deeply regret having caused pain.

I am going to delete the tweet to prevent further pain. It was an ill-considered and irreverent reply and was referencing a vocally transphobic author& #39;s mocking the term "people who menstruate". Again, I& #39;m very sorry. It was inappropriate and hurtful.
