Putting the Ziyech vs Bruno debate to rest: A Thread.

Let’s start off by comparing their club career stats.

Ziyech:
317 games
109 goals (13 pens)
124 assists
Avg of 0.73 G/A pg

Bruno:
321 games
98 goals (26 pens)
78 assists
Avg of 0.54 G/A pg

Clearly Ziyech has much better stats with more goals and assists in fewer games.
Now let’s look at the leagues / competitions these goal contributions came from.

Ziyech:
League - 193 G/A in 258 (0.74 G/A pg)
Domestic Cups - 14 G/A in 18 (0.77 G/A pg)
UEL - 7 G/A in 14 (0.5 G/A pg)
UCL - 20 G/A in 29 (0.69 G/A pg)

Great G/A per game ratios across the board.
Bruno:
League - 123 G/A in 249 (0.49 G/A pg)
Domestic Cups - 27 G/A in 42 (0.64 G/A pg)
UEL - 22 G/A in 22 (1.0 G/A pg)
UCL - 4 G/A in 8 (0.5 G/A pg)

Amazing UEL G/A ratio per game, good domestic cup record, good but not as good league record, and good UCL record.
While Ziyech’s League G/A pg ratio is much higher than Bruno’s, it is worth noting that Bruno Fernandes has played in the Serie A and Premier League, 2 high competition leagues. However, he has also played in LIGA NOS, and Serie B, leagues lacking much quality (mainly Serie B).
Let’s look at Bruno’s domestic league stats.

Serie B: 10 G/A in 33 (below average)
Serie A: 29 G/A in 119 (terrible)
Liga NOS: 69 G/A in 83 (great)
Prem: 15 G/A in 14 (amazing)

As you can see Bruno performed poorly in Serie B, an extremely low competition league.
Ziyech has played in the Eredivisie his whole career, which is at the same level of competition as Liga NOS. Therefore their league stats should be up for comparison, considering Bruno has also played 33 games in Serie B, which is much easier than the Eredivisie and Liga NOS.
In addition to that, Bruno Fernandes has only played on Sporting in Liga NOS, one of the top tier teams, meanwhile Ziyech has played for lower tier teams in the Eredivisie such as Twente and Heerenveen. He still managed to average 88 G/A in 122 games for both teams combined.
Let’s talk about big games now.

Ziyech has won 2 Eredivisie titles (officially still 1), 1 Dutch Cup, and 1 Dutch Super Cup. He has also played in a europa league final. He has 1 G/A in those 3 finals having played only 190 min out of a potential 270, and winning 2/3.
Bruno has won 1 Portuguese Cup, and 2 Portuguese League Cups, also finishing as runner up in the Portuguese cup once. In these 4 finals he got 0 G/A, but did score 3/3 penalties in the shootouts. He won 3/4 finals. Bruno and Sporting have never been able to win the Liga NOS.
Let’s look at some key stat comparisons from this season in their leagues.

Ziyech:
Key passes - 78
Chances created - 90
Pass completion - 77%
Passes - 1112
Assists - 12

Bruno:
Key passes - 63
Chances created - 70
Pass completion - 77%
Passes - 954
Assists - 7
Ziyech:
Shot accuracy - 46%
Goals - 6
Penalty goals - 0
Goals outside box - 2

Bruno:
Shot accuracy - 54%
Goals - 8
Penalty goals - 4
Goals outside box - 1

These stats are from Ziyech in the Eredivisie this season (21 games) and Bruno in Liga Nos this season (17 games).
“But Bruno has already proved himself in the Prem while Ziyech has only played in a farmers league.” While that may be true, Ziyech has proved himself countless times in the Champions league with amazing performances in the knockout rounds against teams like Real Madrid.
Let’s look at Bruno’s stats in the Prem.

14 games
8 goals
7 assists
2 POTM

Impressive right? Yes, it is, just not as much as it might seem.

4/8 goals are pens
He missed 4 big chances
Only 3 chances created in 14 games? He had 70 in 17 in Liga NOS.
Still good nonetheless
National Team Stats

Ziyech:
32 games played
12 goals
6 assists
Avg of 0.56 G/A per game

Bruno:
19 games played
2 goals
3 assists
Avg of 0.26 G/A per game

Bruno plays for Portugal. The levels are staggering👀
I just wanna add that obviously penalties are goals and are still important. Bruno is a great pen taker. As i mentioned before he converted 3/3 in shootouts in finals. My point is Ziyech doesn’t take penalties so it gives Bruno a goal advantage as they’re easier to score. ✌🏻
In conclusion, Hakim Ziyech and Bruno Fernandes are both great players who will hopefully have good seasons in the Prem next year. I hope this thread gave you some new insight into this debate and helped you understand why Ziyech is a better player. Likes and rts appreciated🙏🏻💯
