During the 2013 ASUU strike, our landlord's son came to call me & my brother that we should join him & some guys to do "ọmọ onílé" parole as one woman has started constructing a new building in the area.

He assured us that we'll get atleast 10k each.

10k?! 😲 🕺

He added that, if we look very rugged and confident we might get more than 10k sef.

I sharply wore my 3-quarter & one big polo shirt with face cap, but my brother said he wasn't going.

I hissed & asked baby landlord if my dressing fits it, he assessed me from head to toe...
...and asked that i remove my wristwatch and wear bathroom slippers, then we set out.

The construction site is in the 3rd streets from our street in Abule Egba.

We got there with other boys and we started "ayajing" the woman. We told her we will not allow the boys to work,
If she doesn't settle us. She was like "my brothers, this is not a personal project, it is a church project. Please we don't have anything"

Ẹ̀gbọ́n Agama was the gangleader, he started para-ing for the woman saying if she doesn't drop something we'll break all the blocks.
The woman continued pleading but all her pleas fell on deaf ears. By this time, all the site workers have halted operations. Me and baby landlord sef dey ginger "ẹ fun wá lowo jor, kinloshele gan gan" 😭

Only if we had known, only if...

Allow me to cry small 😭😭😭
Finally, she said we should give him some time to call the financial secretary of the church to see if he could bring money for us. She stepped aside and made her call for few mins.

The construction site used to be a school with a very big compound with tall fence and gate.
The school has been demolished but the fence and gate are still intact.

Most of us were inside the compound negotiating while only few people were outside.

I was vibrating and at the same time thinking of what I will do with my 5k.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of people...
...running helter-skelter.

Before I could say jack, 2 OP MESA van have already parked outside.

Fully armed, they walked majestically into the compound.

I look to my left & right, I couldn't find baby landlord. 😲

Ladies & gentlemen..... Allow me to cry small again 😭😭😭
We were like 13 trapped inside.

Without saying a word, we started offloading the cement inside the truck packed in the compound. Then we moved to carrying blocks.

Finally, we were supplying the real bricklayers a mixture of cement, sand and water using "pon pon" (headpan).
I was surprised to see Ẹ̀gbọ́n Agama doing these unprecedented hard labour with passion, I was expecting his thuggery demonstration to save us from those military personnel, as per number 1 tout in my street; but Ẹ̀gbọ́n was the first person to pick shovel & head pan. 😭
Funny thing is, those military men didn't threaten us, neither did they physically abuse us.

Some of them stood at the entrance, while some hung around the compound telling us "Well done" intermittently.

The most painful thing was, at the end of the day the woman we were...
...initially harassing, told us to line up and gave us 3k each for a job well done.

As we were leaving the compound, the woman pleaded that we come the next day as we just made their work faster.

Some people responded out of fear, but I couldn't as I was weak to the lips.
Anyways, I used my 3k to buy antimalarial, analgesic, aboniki balm and bandage.

Baby landlord still had the guts to knock on my door and ask for his share of the 3k.

At that point, i wished I had a big antelope horn with red scarf tied around it and white fowl feathers. 🤦🏾‍♂️
