so i saw this post on tumblr about pr relationships/closeting in the music and hollywood industry and i thought it was interesting and deserved to be put on here. it’s mostly videos and itw of people gone through these before, so if its something that interests u stick with me !
first i just wanna give all the credits to the tumblr user @/queensgaybeach1d whose post is where i found everything i’m gonna put in here. I literally did nothing
also im obviously a larrie but this thread is not strictly related to them but rather the entire system as a whole
Here’s a video of Max, Simon’s ex publicist who worked with him and his artists until (at least) 2012 before going in prison where he died in 2017. He literally admits that he would cover homosexuality with « a PR long term relationship ».
This video shows Chely Wright in 2010 talking about her experience in the industry as a closeted artist and how it’s all still very much going on. It f*cking broke my heart hearing all of this from someone who actually went through all that sh*t this is inhuman
part 2

TW // Suicidal thoughts, depression
Next is an excerpt from the documentary « Artifact » summing up how labels and music recording industry work with their artists. again very interesting, and very f’cking terrifying
part 2
Lance Bass (N’sync) talking about his experience as a closeted boybander and how the music industry is still very homophobic (2016).
Another boybander’s experience : Jonathan Knight (New Kids On The Block).
part 2
Now we also have some written testimonials of oppression/closeting by labels, including Rebecca Ferguson (signed at the same label on the same year as 1d) you can read the whole thing here : http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqhec4
and Mark Feehily (West Life).

TW // Suicidal Thoughts & Dépression
On the matter of PR Relationships, several people in the business opened up about it through the years always saying overall the same thing. This one was credited to the twt account @/aismadeintheam idk if this is still the right @ tho
we can also take into account Gigi Hadid & John Mayer discussing how if a celebrity wants to hide smtg they just hide it & « There’s so many ways people can just do shit without any of you finding out » which adds to the theory that really we only see what they want us to see
ok that’s all i’ll add for now ! i’m aware that this doesn’t really "prove" anything (& anyways it’s not so much my point here) but i think it’s definitely an interesting aspect of the industry that deserved to be looked into and talked about more
