Pakistan's single national curriculum - sharing some thoughts from previous rants on this topic. Having a single curriculum sounds good, a great national equalizer, but unfortunately the curriculum is way down the list of items which inform quality teaching
and improve student life chances. Yes, you could set everyone the same syllabus and issue them the same textbooks, but the inequalities that drive people to private education still remain. Will everyone get the same quality teachers? Will class sizes be uniform? Will everyone
have access to the same quality of libraries, labs and IT rooms (if any), how about the infrastructure of the schools themselves? ACs, fans, heating, tables, chairs, toilets, all uniform and the same? What about parental support to their children? Will everyone's parents be
able to support their children equally?

A single national curriculum is a tempting solution as it seems so obvious, but it is largely symbolic and will have little impact on improving teaching and learning or students life chances.

A much better solution is to invest, invest
invest in teachers and improve the pay, working conditions, subject knowledge and pedagogical skills of teachers.
