if you’re a mix (or all) of
a. a well-known writer in toronto
b. someone with countless media connections, including with the globe
c. published by the country’s largest publisher
d. annoying
then perhaps your book didn’t sell because it was bad and not because of...libraries.
i promise you that if my next book does poorly, proportional to my audience and advance, assuming i get marketing support and that people continue to vaguely care about my work, i won’t blame the 14 year olds who wait a year to check the thing out from the college st location
other people you can blame for possibly poor sales:
1. your publisher if they do no marketing
2. racism
3. sexism
4. coronavirus
5. the fact that no one cares about hoover?
6. bad luck
7. your friends who asked for ARCs but didn’t buy the final version YES I REMEMBER
8. netflix
things that are the library’s fault
1. too quiet
2. expects me to read Infinite Jest during a fortnight loan
3. first sexual experience occurred in cassettes section
4. wouldn’t hire me as a volunteer in grade 8
5. insufficient books on oral sex in the calgary sw branch in 2002
well anyway, i’m gonna go check of “the dignity of libraries” on my List Of Things I Have To Think About Today For Some Reason
some weather we’re having
