Something I love in old superhero comics that is mostly gone now is how many extreme elements were just throwaway bits for outrageous convenience. “Thanks to tbis alien atomic submarine I found in a warehouse, I can continue my reign of destruction ! HA HA HA HA HA !” — villain
Now, in modern superhero comics, there’d have to be a 12 issue arc about industrial sabotage to get to the villain having the atomic submarine. Because the “sophisticated” audience needs it explained away. No. Stop it. One panel is enough. A throwaway line.
This also leads into my favorite trope of “brilliant” scientists discovering TRULY WORLD-CHANGING TECH — for the PETTIEST stuff. “Now, with my experimental formula that can instantly remove any toxin, I’ll FINALLY get REVENGE for that fateful prom when THEY ALL LAUGHED AT ME!”
