I watched Perfect Blue for the first time last night and... I have some questions

Ok so we’re David Lynch and Satoshi Kon like best friends cause this borrowed heavily from Twin Peaks and then Mullholland Drive borrowed heavily from this. Were they pen pals? Lovers? I need to know more

Everyone told me this was a super weird movie and Paprika is way trippier. Maybe it was weird in their memory cause it helped invent this psychodrama thriller? It was fairly straightforward surrealist thriller stuff

THE ANIMATION IS SO BRILLIANT. Like was the animation team human? I don’t even know how they made half these scenes

Remember when animations were radical and experimental art forms? Wouldn’t it be so cool to still have animation like this, that’s super adult and weird and brilliant and dark

Anyway 9/10 for a sad girl losing grips on reality movie made by a dude with lots of sexual assault despite it being about the exploitation of women’s bodies in Japanese media and specifically shojo anime
