rebecca’s family contacted a high-profile seattle attorney, anne bremner. after reading the case, anne agreed that the suicide ruling was suspicious and she offered to take her case pro bono.

anne contacted a forensic pathologist and he does a second autopsy. he said that the injuries were not exclusive to just hanging and could also be related to strangulation.

she also found extremely odd that rebecca’s hair was tucked under the knot because people with longer hair tend to pull out their hair from whatever is around their neck, even when they commit suicide.

it was also found a hemorrhage on top of rebecca’s head. they believe that could have been caused by intentionally damage to the head. also lividi ty was fixed in rebecca’s back, if rebecca had died by hanging the lividi would have been fixed in the lower part of the body.

another forensic doctor looked at the photograph of the footprints in the balcony and compared it to a police boot and he said determined it did NOT come from a police boot because they didn’t match. he later was forced to leave rebecca’s cause without any explanation.

in adam’s phone were also found weird researches from the night before the murder like “sexy asian girls” “bondage anime”. adam admitted to look at pornography.

in a wastebasket in the guesthouse was found a pair of women’s underwear but they were not tested for dna. many of the other proofs at the house (like the two knives) were not tested but they found blood on the smaller knife.

there was also no blood found on rebecca except for the menstrual cycle. the knife had to be inserted against her vaginal area when she was assaulted but police did anything with that piece of evidence.

rebecca’s family hired a handwriting expert that believed adam wrote the text on the door.

rebecca’s family filed a $10 million civil lawsuit and claimed that rebecca’s death was a murder involving dina, nina and adam. dina and nina had strong alibis so the focus on them immediately dropped, adam on the other hand...

rebecca’s family said that adam was responsible for the murder of rebecca and the lawsuit was permitted to move forward.

adam’s lawyers opening arguments were that there were no proofs that adam was involved in rebecca’s death. when adam get called to the witness stand, they play the 911 call.

they asked him why he didn’t say rebecca’s name and just referred to her as woman and he was like “well, huh, she was a woman” and then they asked about the knots he said “i have no idea how to tie these knots” HE WORKED AS A

an attorney was able to figured out what happened that night; rebecca was in the shower and when she came out, adam confronted her. they believe she was struck in the back of the head four times then she was knocked out unconscious, bound and had gagged and sexually assaulted.

then strangled her and hang her. the motive was due to rage about what happened to max.

adam was declared guilty. adam has always denied the allegations. later on the case was dismissed but the verdict was still valid. in december 2018 the case was reopened and rebecca’s death was ruled as suicide.
