I’ve met people who simultaneously claim that anti-semitism isn’t racism, and also that someone (me) “looks Jewish”.

It really depends where you are and with whom. Some people are absolutely looking for Jewish ethnicity in a face. Sometimes that’s other Jews, sometimes anti-semites.

Some people recognise there is *something* about my ethnicity, but they aren’t sure what. They just know I’m different and they don’t like it. One dude once demanded of my sister and I, “YOU GYPSY?”.

(Romani and Irish travellers face a similar ‘ethnic catch 22’ that Jews do, which is too white to be considered victims of racism, not white enough for racists)

Anti-semites don’t care about the colour of Jewish skin, they care about our blood, which to them is inferior, tainted, dirty, animal. Jewish blood informs ‘the nature’ of the Jew, which is greed, secrecy, manipulation and exploitation.

As a child in poverty on a Midlands council estate, I didn’t understand the playground jokes about Jews and money, because poor people share their resources. “How do you kill a hundred Jews? Throw a penny under a bus!”.

Btw whenever I tweet that I’m Jewish, I lose followers. Coincidence I’m sure.
