Visual material showing what Mason Mount does. A Thread

I chose the game vs Tottenham because that's the game I've seen Mount fans praise - They never tell us what he does so lets find out!
The first thing I noticed is a pattern that we see a lot at Chelsea. Long pass to Tammy and Mount makes a run behind
Same pattern. Would work better if we had a striker who could control the ball. We saw this pattern recently in the City game when Giroud played nice through balls to Pulisic and Willian on the counter. Is it a Mount thing?
Once again Tammy drops deep and Mount runs behind him. This strategy is used a lot by midtable hoofball teams who play with big strikers like Antonio. If midtable team wingers can make these runs is it really elite movement? They hyping mid again
Mount presses very aggressively. He has a high work rate like Willian. Congrats to that. But pressing should be done as a team in an organized fashion. Doesnt matter if Mount is pressing or not, either way its ineffective
These are some examples of Mount recieving the ball between the lines. I rarely see him do this. But what he does with the ball next is very bad. This isnt elite movement, any #10 should be recieving the ball between the lines, but how does he distribute it?
More examples of Mount's positioning. His runs were never a problem for Tottenham because with their defensive system they always had an extra man to mark him. He could've caused more havoc if he played in front of the defence, pulling them out
And thats where the problems begin. He's very very bad at playing between the lines. The main reason why people dislike Mount. Im taking Grealish and Buendia over him any day
The only example I could find of Mount creating space for others. He pulls the Tottenham CB out and Tammy runs into the space.
Link up: Mount lacks in technical ability to link up with his teammates. These are all the highlights that I didnt include in the previous tweets
This highlight deserves recognition. However, it doesnt impress me. This is supposedly his best game and I wont rate him based on one run that midtable wingers make all the time
Disclaimer: I included every single situation where Mount was involved in the play, even situations where he didnt have the ball. So I didnt cherry pick these highlights
Statistics support my arguments. Mason Mount has 2 through balls all season, 76 shots 6 goals. I dont have his pressing statistics for this season but at Derby County he had 119 missed tackles and 80 fouls compared to a total of 70 tackles + interceptions (Aggressive)
If you have anything to say, put up an actual argument and nothing like "watch the game" "hes class".
Remember: This is his best game all year. Normally he ghosts 70% of the game
