I just want to emphasize for the zillionth time that these protests happen in a very tiny part of Portland. I park several blocks away, and often find myself walking by people getting off work or going on a date. I’m wearing chest plates and feel like an absolute alien.
Rolled up to the courthouse just in time for a wave of gas. Gearing up now. Lots of big fireworks going off.
Just thinking again about how the Department of Homeland Security was founded in 2002 to do... something... and now it’s 2020 and DHS officers are launching tear gas at civilians during a pandemic that attacks the lungs, and then blowing the gas towards them w/ leaf blowers.
I just heard a guy try to tell his friend about all the nice fancy snacks he had brought her, while simultaneously getting an eye wash and choking on tear gas, and it was just a lot.
(He was choking, not me; it was very sweet and sad.)
This box says “anti fascist silly string, use responsibly”
Tear gas once again billowing over the crowd and two upside-down American flags. Stay to the end for a big firework.
I’m in the street in front of the courthouse. It’s really crowded up here and I genuinely think it’s at least 40% press. Maybe I should take more nights off.
Someone is trying to fill the gaps in the fence with spray foam, presumably because federal agents use those gaps to shoot through.
Can’t really see from this photo, but someone is holding a sign that just says QUELLED.
I just accidentally kicked this beach ball. Extreme June protest throwback energy.
Protesters are rhythmically smacking signs and shields against the fence. The tempo gradually increases as laser pointer lights dance against the wall of the courthouse. It feels, bizarrely, like we’re at a big sporting event or concert or something. Remember concerts?
Tonight, the Wall of Moms directly behind the fence is outfitted with helmets, gas masks, umbrellas, and shields. Totally wild to watch them level up every night.,
Lasers dance at the top of the courthouse, where several officers peer down.
A protester burns an American flag against the fence. You know why this is watermarked 🙃
Before I forget, anyone know the best way to wash tear gas off gear?
There’s a protester up here without a mask, goggles, or a helmet, who is smoking a cigarette and drinking a PBR at the same time. So powerful.
I know I talked about this already today alone. But it’s absolutely wild to be walking through a crowd of thousands of people, in which people are literally constantly coughing around you, during a respiratory pandemic.
The @riotribs line is easily 30-40 people right now.

While we’re here, a reminder that Riot Ribs is no longer taking monetary donations! So if you see someone asking for $$ for “”Riot Ribs””, it’s probably scammy.

There’s a big group of black bloc in the middle of 4th and Salmon dancing to that “fuck Donald Trump” song. One of them is waving a huge pride flag.
