I think it tells a whole lot how Ran, when describing Shinichi, always mentions the word "reliable" or how "you can count on him in a pinch". Sure, he's "cool", and he's "handsome" but it's just so interesting how "reliable" is always there. It really tells a lot about their -
- relationship, and about how Shinichi truly is, and I find myself agreeing with Ran on that. Shinichi truly is a reliable guy, and someone worth having around as a friend or in Ran's case, a 'boyfriend'.
It's the main reason Shinichi is such an important part of my life.

Even if you know, objectively speaking, that he is a fictional character, the fact that you not only hear people describe him as reliable but that you see that very characteristic as something rooted so -
- in his DNA, makes you honestly believe that he will watch over you.

For Ran, that's super important. This is a girl whose mother left because she felt like she was with an unreliable man. This is a girl who believes and tries to prove time and time again that her father -
- is reliable. This is a girl who was teased severely in preschool, who always feels like she's a little bit alone. For someone like that, who really needs something and someone to believe in, to find in her best friend—and now boyfriend, by the way—someone who is the textbook -
- definition of reliable is so important.

And I love that she enumerates a bunch of physical attributes of Shinichi’s almost like they’re not important and instead focuses on his personality. He’s cool and handsome, sure, he’s a hottie and the fangirls are all over him --
- but Ran's like, "sure, yeah, whatever, but actually that doesn't even matter that much", because, here’s the thing, we've only met Shinichi for a chapter, and all we've seen so far, really, is that he's intelligent, smart, clever, obsessed with Holmes, and kind of arrogant.
But we’ve also seen that he cares for Agasa, and of course for Ran. But in that one conversation, Ran tells us so much about him. It’s like Aoyama presents us this main character with a bunch of flaws, but then has the most perfect ethereal being on the planet telling us to -
- hold on, to keep watching because this lil buddy is actually an amazing guy. Sure he thinks highly of himself and teases her, but deep down he's reliable, and brave, and he really cares for those around him.

Ran’s telling us to hold on because if we do, we will also get -
- to see these amazingly great characteristics Shinichi has.

Ran single-handedly eliminates all the Shinichi haters. In the span of twenty seconds, give or take, she rebuts every negative observation the Shinichi haters have ever accused him of, and proves to us that he's -
- actually, deep down, incredible.

And this is the girl who knows him best in the world, so we should listen to her.
