Chasing #Betelgeuse : A thread.

“Butterflies and
black and bluebirds
I'll never be the same
since I met you
If I could fly at the speed of light,
I could get to Betelgeuse
in about 600 years”

Last evening i saw Betelgeuse again, on the right shoulder of #Orion after weeks.
After weeks of cloudscapes and rain, #Betelgeuse shone red to the right of blue #Bellatrix . Saw him in the North last evening on the hunter’s shoulder, woke up to find him in the North East on the tip of the right horn of #Taurus , today morning.
The Inuit people calls #Betelgeuse and #Bellatrix the two stars that makes the shoulder of the #Orion constellation, as #Akuttujuuk "those (two) placed far apart" !
Betelgeuse is a red super giant star that left the main sequence about one million years ago. Some say, this red
super giant could explode into a #Supernova between anytime now and the next 100,000 years. Which is relatively soon, in astronomical terms.
But, maybe Betelgeuse has already exploded and we have not yet seen it happen. It takes light from this star about 600 years to reach us !
Meaning, that we're actually observing the star as it was 600 years ago in the year 1420 !!

This is the constellation of Orion, the hunter. The Sanskrit name for Betelgeuse is ārdrā "the moist one". Lord Rudra, the Rig Vedic God of storms, presides over the star.
Someone just messaged to say that while this thread sounds exciting, but everything is going over the head 😁. I am writing about the most prominent constellation Orion, and its red supergiant star Betelgeuse folks. Orion is seen in the Northern sky on the horizon as night sets
in the #Assam sky. It’s clearly visible to the naked eye next to the blue female warrior star Bellatrix. The other 2 bright star that completes the rectangle of Orion are Rigel and Saiph. Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka makes Orion's Belt n is the easiest way to locate Orion.
