Before law school, I was a teacher. It's where I met my wife. I would still be a teacher if that was viable as a head of household where I live. Some thoughts on education in COVID. A thread.
My wife has run a preschool out of our house the past 13 years since my 2nd son was a lad. She closed in March. She will not/cannot reopen for the foreseeable future. The state would let her, but she knows and her parents know its just not safe.
The most important aspects of education for the youngs, 2-5, are appropriate socialization (sharing, lining up, not biting). Trump virus has basically destroyed that.
For 6 through 14, we really should do MUCH better about getting them outside for exercise and free range socialization. Organized sports and key academics also good. Trump virus has mostly killed sports and socialization; I fear for those kids that do not have a GOOD household.
Pretty much all non-academic aspects of High School are gone. No one knows what happens when kids are deprived of this experience... but we are about to find out.
College- a lot of schools, my son's included, are saying they are going to open on a hybrid schedule. It's not going to work. Big time college football is not going to work either. Make a plan for your college age student to be exposed and move back into your house
Bottom Line: until we have a serious, rigorous program to stop social spread; test to identify cases and trace to find the exposed ... WE AREN'T GOING STOP THIS
