WHAT MAMAMOO HWASA IS WEARING IS NOT CA

- A historical and cultural perspective thread from South-East Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore 🇲🇨 🇲🇾 🇸🇬 )

The style is similar to the "baju butterfly" that makciks (aunties) wear to the market or as night dress in Malaysia and Singapore LOL.
The design is batik, which originates from Indonesia.
THE ANKARA OR AFRICAN WAX PRINTS IS ACTUALLY INSPIRED BY BATIK, AND INTRODUCED BY THE DUTCH TO WEST AFRICA.

You can go read up on the history, but here are some articles by Face2FaceAfrica and Vogue.

The headwrap is popular here as well. Image is Yuna, a Malaysian pop singer.
If anything, it should be Southeast Asians who should be upset at her. BUT NO, we welcome and love it when Mamamoo wears our traditional clothing. https://twitter.com/Tippaknee/status/1286912011499012098?s=19
Some other names:
"Baju Kelawar" (Malaysia & Singapore)
"Daster" (Indonesia)

Men can wear it too. Really ANYONE can try wearing it. It's airy and comfy.
I'm from Singapore and Hwasa wore it much better than the aunties I see wearing it walking around.
