I'm not thrilled at the way "do your own research" has become a slogan for our era. Not everyone can do the same quality of research, and it's not sheep-like deference to assume that experts in a field are experts.
I got thinking about this this morning after reading an article on Q-Anon where practitioners begged people to "do their own research" about the truth of Q (with the assumption that hours logged on 8chan will make you, too, join the cult).
I've also seen the phrase thrown around with COVID-19 and the movie Plandemic. You, too, can do your own research about how Anthony Fauci invented COVID.
But you also see it a lot in layperson biblical scholarship, and a resistance to the work of actual scholars and historians! So you bet your sweet ass this is a subtweet!
