Krupskaya, apart from being Lenin's wife, is the author of numerous works on communist education and pedagogy and the history of the Bolshevik party. She was instrumental in the foundation of the Komsomol and the Pioneer movement as well as the Soviet educational system itself.
Krupskaya initiated the opening of many museums in the USSR, including the Belinsky and Lermontov museums in the Penza region and also was fundamental in the development of Soviet librarian-ship. Overall, she became one of the founders of the Soviet system of public education.
In April 1917, along with Lenin, Nadyezhda returned to Russia and became his assistant in the preparation and conduction of the October Revolution. She organized the proletarian youth, created the Socialist Union of Working Youth, the Komsomol and the Pioneer organization.
In 1920 she became the chairman of the Glavpolitprosvet at the People's Committee of Education and she initiated the creation of the "Friend of Children" society. In the discussion about the application of the scout methodology in the upbringing of Soviet children.
She believed that the pioneer organization should be scout in form and communist in content. Together with the German communist Edwin Görnle, she worked out questions of the proletarian, communist education of children.
Krupskaya was a convinced Marxist for whom every element of public education was a step towards improving the people's lives, by granting them access to the means of education and libraries.
She sent a library census where she encouraged libraries to collaborate and open their doors to the public, and librarians to use common words when speaking to patrons and to organize the material to make it more accessible to the general public.
"The school should not only teach, it should be the center of communist education." - N. Krupskaya
