Back on my bullshit again, looking up photos of national capitol buildings and commenting on their architecture.

Here's last night's thread about capitol buildings in the Americas. https://twitter.com/ABeanTweeting/status/1286810391981457409
And the thread about state capitols that started this nonsense two nights ago. https://twitter.com/ABeanTweeting/status/1286471362983460864
The people voted to see what Africa has to offer, so I'll be looking at what's interesting in alphabetical order.

Algeria's Parliament meets in a nondescript building currently, but are upgrading to some nice new digs soon. The post office in Algiers is the real stunner, though
Angola's National Assembly Building is brand new (2015) and looks fantastic, imo. I am on the record as loving rusty red in monumental architecture.

Really dig the dome being so low on the structure, too. Never seen anything quite like that.
Botswana's Parliament Building is fascinating. Very Mid-century aesthetic and I love the unity of all those arches in the arcade, tower, and buildings.
The Palais du Peuple in Kinsahsa was built with credit from the PRC in the 1970s and...it shows. Blech.

The Belgians built the Palais de la Nation, now the seat of the DRC's President, right before the colonial period ended. Central rotunda is a nice touch.
Cairo is old enough (duh) that there's tons of monumental government buildings. Heliopolis Palace house the President. There's also the ancient Cairo Citadel and the Mogamma building, which stands on Tahrir Square. The last is suitably ominous; citadel is beyond words.
Also worth the reminder that Egypt is building a new capital city in the dessert 30 miles to the east. The, uh, charmingly named New Administrative Capital looks like a Persian Gulf knock-off.

The new Parliament Building definitely has that same ominous vibe as the Mogamma.
Ethiopia's Art Deco Parliament Building looked absolutely outstanding back in the day. Love that color scheme, which has been lost.

A new building, which seems reminiscent of Brasilia, has been designed.
Guinea's Palais du Peuple is as 1960s as one can get. Reminds me of the original McCormick Place, actually.

That screened facade is always a nice touch, especially with so little else by way of ornamentation.
Guinea-Bissau's Palácio Colinas de Boé is fantastic. Love that burnt orange color scheme and the angular tilt to the tower. Not sure I know of anything else quite like that?
The Parliament House in Nairobi is my favorite of the night so far. Clearly nodding towards Westminster, but with a Midcentury Modern aesthetic and lots of local touches.

A+ Love everything I am seeing here.
Lesotho's Parliament Building was recently constructed with funds from the PRC. It, uh, looks like a Bond villain's lair. Like Roger Moore-era Bond.

I am not sure I've seen a building from the 2010s that felt more like it came from the lowest point of the 70s.
Morocco's Parliament meets in a building that it's hard not to describe as Totalitarianesque. Albert Speer in the Maghreb.

The Dar al-Makhzen palace is stunning, though. I love Islamic architecture so much and would love to see more of it in person someday.
Nigeria's National Assembly is only a bit over 20 years old. Dome and wing form is clearly modeled on older structures like the US Capitol.

Keep thinking the shape of the dome and some of the styling nod towards Islamic architecture.
