#THOSVIRTUALCON | Here's what you missed during today's group panel featuring @HarryShumJr, @MatthewDaddario, @Kat_McNamara, @arosende, @TessaMossey and Dominic Sherwood!

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @Kat_McNamara started by saying how excited she was about the con. "I'm glad to be doing this. I realized it's the end of July and way past the time we would have been together doing these things. So it's just nice to see you guys, and all of you.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry: "I wanna get on a plane right now."
Kat: "Oh, so bad."

Such a mood.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | One of the first questions was about how Matt and Harry approached the Malec storyline. Matt described it as "a desire to do it right. Obviously it was a very popular thing from the books, so we tried to make sure people would be happy with our performance."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "You know, we tried as hard as we could. At that moment, it was like 'Oh, okay, I got the role of Magnus Bane', but everyone online was like 'Malec, Malec'. And I was like - what is a Malec?" - @HarryShumJr on his and Matt's approach to the Malec storyline.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry described the Malec relationship as "a character of its own that was fun to dissect and figure out. But the coolest part was the support from the rest of the cast, them really loving that story and even opening up certain episodes." (1/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "Like, even at a couple of table reads there were people crying and sniffling and giggling and stuff. So it was really fun to have that energy around.“ - Harry describing the cast's support of the Malec storyline. (2/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Dom and Kat then said that the Malec storyline was one of their favorite parts of the show.

Dom: "It was the best storyline".
Kat: "You guys killed it. And about the sniffles - guilty as charged.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "It's definitely the best arc, right? Because from beginning to end it was a full story." - @MatthewDaddario about the Malec storyline.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The next question was about what their respective characters would be doing in self-isolation.

@Kat_McNamara thinks Clary "would be working on a rune to get out of this whole situation."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @HarryShumJr showed a picture of Magnus wearing a face shield in season 1 that someone sent him. He said Magnus would be fine. "He's seen a lot of diseases throughout the centuries, so he kinda knows what to do."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Matt agreed that Magnus would know what to do. "He's an expert on pandemics. He's been around since before modern-day medicine."

Harry then said that Magnus would "probably just go to the beach and wait until all this is over."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "I like that photo, it cracks me up. One of the things we should have stolen from set, in hindsight, is face shields and masks and stuff." - Dom about the picture of Magnus wearing the face shield.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Dom then told the story of how he almost drowned while wearing his owl mask for season 3A: "The mask was air-tight. And the first time I used it, the rain was building up and couldn't get back out, and I almost drowned inside my own mask."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "You know that I never saw you in the damn costume? I was never there" - @MatthewDaddario about Dom's Owl costume.

Dom: "Yeah, you did. Our trailers were next to each other, you absolutely saw me wearing it."

Matt: "Never once, not one time."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The next question was about whether they already knew about the big fandom when they booked their respective roles. (1/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Kat said at first that they all knew the fans were very passionate. "And when we all met each other, we knew that it had the potential to be something really special."

Harry and Matt then said that they didn't know, but that it was a good surprise. (2/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @arosende said he didn't know either, "but after we got announced, it was like a tidal wave. We got announced, and then we got thrown in. It wasn't until after we got announced that it became a visible thing.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | For @HarryShumJr, Comic Con was a turning point. "When you shoot the show, you're just doing your thing. You get feedback online, but it's not until you physically see people dress up as your character and come up and recognize you that you realize the impact."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Dom: "You should have told us, Kat."
Matt: "Yeah. Thanks a lot."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | One of the fans asked what being part of Shadowhunters brought them personally. @Kat_McNamara said that the show brought her a family.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @MatthewDaddario
said for him it was "also the amount of experience we got as actors. Incredible. And then we got to create a piece of pop culture, fantastic. And then on top of that, we had the most likely best group of fans. So there's a lot."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @HarryShumJr added that they also learned a lot on the show. "We all had our separate storylines, and group storylines, and it was cool to be part of a sci-fi show. But the way that certain issues were adressed through a sci-fi lense was really cool." (1/3)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry: "You'd show up and see a guy dressed up as an owl."
Dom: "Matt didn't. But everybody else did." (2/3)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Matt then wanted to know if Dom was actually dressed as an owl: "Like, with wings?"

Dom: "No, it was more like a coat. Like a trench coat."
Matt: "Owls don't wear coats."
Harry: "He was crawling up walls and stuff."
Matt: "Owls don't crawl."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | A fan from Hungary then asked if the cast had ever been there or if they wanted to go. Alberto said he hadn't, but wanted to go really bad. "The bit of Hungarian food that I've had was really awesome.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Matt said that he had been to Budapest. "I had a great time there. Ate a lot of food. Budapest is awesome, there’s some really cool bars there."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The next question was about how long it took them to learn lines. (1/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Dom said it depended on the scene, sometimes the lines would change last minute. "We would get to set and it would be a completely different thing. So you're like 'Oh, okay. I'll just learn them right now.’" (2/2)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry and Dom then started talking about Dom's American accent on the show, and the way Magnus spoke.

Dom: "Like, the intricacies of how you spoke was very not Harry, wasn’t it?"
Harry: "How do you know? I'm scared.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "There were certain words where you would be like, "Wait, what's the American accent?" Words like 'aluminum' and...how do you say it?

Dom: "Aluminium. The correct way, we say it the correct way."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | After that, they talked about driving in the UK/the US. Dom said he always gets confused when he's in the UK: "When I pull out of the driveway for the first time and there are no cars coming, I have to take a second to remember which side I'm supposed to be on.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Going back to the question, Harry said he tried to memorize his lines, but it's was about the meaning and subtext of the scene for him. (1/3)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "If you know exactly what you're trying to get the attention at, the words come out. Sometimes you think you'll forget your lines, but if you know what's happening, it comes out." - Harry about the importance of knowing not only lines, but also context. (2/3)

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "I think that helps a lot, especially for words that are not in your daily vocabulary."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | They then remembered their first week of shooting and having to learn all the Shadow World lingo, such as how to pronounce "stele" and "parabatai".

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The discussion became a bit chaotic after that, so Matt & Dom ended up apologizing to the translator.

Her reply: "That's fine, I'll shorten it anyways because it was a lot of nonsense."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The next question was about which books each of them read recently.

Dom: "Do pamphlets count?“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry said he last read "Night Man" by Brett Battles. "It's a really cool book.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @Kat_McNamara last read "Beloved" by Toni Morrison, written by Toni Morrison and suggested to her by @arosende. Alberto said he recently read "The Bluest Eye", also by Toni Morrison.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @TessaMossey last read "The Library on Mount Char" by Scott Hawkins. "That was the last narrative book I read. I read a lot of stuff.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @MatthewDaddario said he's currently reading "Rama II" by Arthur C. Clarke, but is only about 50 pages in.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @arosende added that he's currently reading "If Beale Street Could Talk" with the Rosende Reads community.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Harry then asked everyone if they prefer real books or ebooks. He said he likes ebooks better.

Tessa said she prefers real books, but likes ebooks too. "If you need to find a certain spot or quote, you can do that electronically. Just scroll through.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Funny moment from the book convo:

Matt: "Dom, do you prefer your books on tape or do you listen to them?"
Dom: "Yeah, because he knows I can't read."
Matt: "And do they describe the pictures to you?"
Dom: "No, I just color them in. You're a bad friend, Matt."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Matt (laughing): "I hope they don't really translate that."
Dom: "All the lovely books that everyone's read, and then they just go, Dom does coloring books and that's it."

#THOSVIRTUALCON | The last question was about which household chores they like most/ hate most.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | Dom told a story about his pets and his vacuuming robot: "The dog really likes it and the cat hates it. So it ends up being this three-way battle royale around my house, when the dog chases it and the cat gets freaked out.“

#THOSVIRTUALCON | After that, Matt asked which DIY projects everyone had done during quarantine. Dom said he built beside tables and a dask, Harry said he's soundproofing a room for Shelby's voiceover work.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | "I've been doing some research on what's the most economical way, but also what's the coolest way to get it soundproof." - @HarryShumJr about his quarantine DIY project.

#THOSVIRTUALCON | @Kat_McNamara said she built a treadmill.

Matt: "A treadmill? I'm certain you didn't build all the parts to that."
Kat: "I put all the pieces together! At one point I thought the motor was going to fall on my head."
