When I started 7th grade, I bought my first TV/VCR. I would record “LIVE! with Regis and Kathie Lee” and later “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly” everyday from 9-10am because my parents thought it was more important for me to go to school than watch a talk show. If they only knew...
I was mesmerized by Regis’ storytelling skills. He could talk about a car ride from one end of Manhattan to the other and make it the most entertaining thing you’ve ever heard.
After college, I grabbed my resume and took the train from Philly to New York and went to an intern recruitment night at 7 Lincoln Square where “LIVE!” filmed. I had my heart set on interning on the show I grew up watching.
Two months later I was in the hallway during my third week at my new internship and I heard the man I idolized scream my name, “Kieran! Who’s Kieran?!” I immediately thought what did I do? I’m getting fired. And as I nervously identified myself he said “I’m not good with names.”
Over the six months of my internship I got to learn from one of televisions biggest legends. He asked me for research, I watched his desk when his assistant was on vacation and I got to support him on field shoots.
But the one moment that will always stand out to me the most was the time I was called over to his apartment to fix his VCR because he was having trouble recording a show. Talk about a full circle moment.
Four years later I returned to Canada to launch “The Morning Show.” That fall I learned that Regis was releasing a new book.
Not only did I get the opportunity to book and produce my idol for the show but the second he came through the doors of our studio he shouted in that loud and distinct Regis voice, “Kieran!”
Turns out he was good with names.

Thank you Regis. I owe so much of my career success to you and the show you built. RIP ❤️
