I’m going to make a thread about my opinion on this matter as a Nigerian. H wore this outfit a few days ago and there was even a live. When I saw the screenshot of the live on twitter I thought it looked like a Nigerian print so I went to watch it on YouTube to get a closer look
Also if don’t agree with me then make your own thread. When I saw the video I realized the material is nothing like Ankara (Nigerian print). It is very ignorant to see anything print and assume it is Nigerian. The material is more like silk or chiffon print.
So the headwear. It is not gele like people are saying. The material used for gele is not even fabric like cotton so it gives the design a distinct raised look. Watch YouTube videos on tying gele. A big giveaway that it is not gele. Even my mum said it is not gele
For my research sake and to be sure I was not defending her mindlessly I googled silk printed fabric because that what it looked like to me. Mind you all these is way before MBC released an official preview of the episode. At this point I knew what she had on was not Nigerian
There was no reason for me to claim ca when it is not Nigerian at all. Then the video was released and a moo translator posted it. When Hwasa came to the scene she saw georgina and said the people in the elevator were not surprised to see her and already knew they were filming.
The day after the video was posted, others saw it and made thier own narrative. Someone mistranslated it and said she intended to scare people even though filming hadn’t even started when she met people in the elevator. Others said she was wearing Nigerian attire
You can imagine my surprise. I understand mistaking it for African artire because of the print (this is ignorance btw) but claiming she wore it to scare people. Everyone became an expert on Nigerian culture because of access to google
H has done some problematic things in the past but that doesn’t mean she is guilty this time. Also MBC captioned it luxurious sauna look in the preview released but the video shared by twt cut that part off
When I tried correcting people that you can hate her but don’t claim what she is wearing is Nigerian when it is not, all I got was hate and insults. If you think it is Nigerian tell me the tribe and show me pictures of people from that tribe wearing it
While going through twitter I saw other people opinions about it. Some Asians said the head wear is very common in thier place but people dragged them for enabling H. Even Nigerians saying what she wore wasn’t Nigerian got insults.
People made thier own narrative from a 15 seconds video and vilified her endlessly. Then when MBC released a statement people started bringing up her past that is filled with misinformation just like this incident.
Just to add. I’m not telling anyone how to feel. If you feel offended that valid too ❤️ I’m just correcting the misinformation that the outfit is Nigerian when it is not
If the print was just a block color this debate won’t be happening. I sent my mum that sells Ankara a screenshot and she said she can’t see clearly but average people on twt can 🙄she called me back to explain that she thinks the material is chiffon btw and used to tie head scarf
Since you all claiming Nigerian outfit please sign the petitions that really affect Nigerians not a woman in Asia wearing what you think is a Nigerian attire http://chng.it/ngmjRLM4
