Opinion: Driving to church needs to become the exception, rather than the rule. https://twitter.com/FrPeterAnthony/status/1286969828553760768
I know, easy to tweet, more difficult for churches and people who have got used to driving. And yes, some people have to. But for all kinds of reasons I think the church needs to do way more on this issue. Climate, pollution, accident risk, severing communities, and more.
This is a useful thread on the social justice aspects of driving, and our car-centred society: https://twitter.com/susancashmere/status/1286225050425753600
I should say at this point: I'm a hypocrite on this front. I go to a church 14 miles away, and whilst I usually catch the train I do sometimes drive. Laziness, low morale, or disorganisation. I'd just like someone in church circles to tell me this isn't OK.
Summary. I’d quite like churches to do more to promote active travel. And see transport as an ethical/ social justice issue.
And here’s a drawing.
