Since seeing this yesterday, I've thought about this art constantly. I had no prior context of these characters other than having heard of Wiccan. This art, though, feels like it speaks volumes.

I'm sharing reasons I love this illustration. Do others feel similarly?

I love their body placement. There's no hug, no kiss, no sexy innuendo ... but that they are so close gives me the impression that there is trust and safety shared between them.

I particularly love the placement of Wiccan's hand on Hulkling's face. Whether their connection is platonic or romantic*, the hand alone conveys so much about their strong bond that evokes emotional &/or physical intimacy.

(*I later learned they're a romantic power couple.)

I love that they appear as equal. I've seen in art of two men of different sizes, there tends to be imbalance. The bigger man -- whether muscular, bear, or tall and & lean -- towers or is protecting the smaller guy. That's not the case here.

Hulkling is larger and looks physically stronger, but isn't projecting a protective pose. Instead, I feel like Wiccan is exuding his own strength, support, and protectiveness. Smaller guys can be the rock for their bigger friends &/or lovers.

I love that the black and white gives it a feeling of a moment frozen in time. It adds impact to the emotion in this moment. With no background, the focus on completely on Wiccan and Hulkling.

Overall, this art makes me so happy. I'm glad it gives representation for two men being close without outright displays of romance or sex. It also makes me want to go buy & read "Lords of Empyre: Emperor Hulkling" to learn more about that. I hope we see more art like this.
