1/ Last Friday, I started a beef with @stoolpresidente while running the @MorningBrew account

here's what i learned about starting twitter wars and beef marketing
2/ They definitely work

the @Morningbrew account added ~2,500 followers in 24 hours

that is 10x our daily average
3/ Milk it for all its worth

it's not easy starting these beefs

once you have lightning in a bottle

turn the heat up and keep it going

we got four separate tweets out of him each with 450K+ impressions
4/ Expand the scope

Virality works by increasing the size of the viral loop

the easiest way to do that is involve large accounts

thats why i tagged @BarstoolBigCat, @KFCBarstool, @Vindog56 etc.
5/ Speak their language

I follow barstool so I know the jokes they make, the memes they use, the people in their org etc.

it's easier to beef with someone you understand

because you know which buttons to push
6/ Don't compromise your values

never get nasty
never lead with malice
never get personal

stay in control and represent yourself well

especially when you're representing an entire brand like the Brew
7/ Maintain your voice

this is important because it helps increase the tribalism of your followers

if they see Morning Brew stay true to its guns

they are more willing to align themselves with us for the long run
8/ Make sure it is clear what you're beefing about

i made sure to focus the beef on Buffett vs Dave

if i tried to veer away from that central idea

it would get messy and less compelling

pick a lane and stick with it
9/ Be thirsty

but don't not too thirsty

once a beef begins, continue to make subtle nods to it

1. it provides kindling should it ever erupt again

2. it makes your followers feel like they are part of an inside joke
10/ Seize the moment

don't over think every tweet you send

these things are all about momentum

don't let it die

let it rip
