Has anyone seen the start of the Cooum river? :) Would you be interested to see?
In 2018, I walked some stretches of the Cooum river mostly around the start and the end for a photography project.
My interest has been to document the variance in the landscapes at the start and the end of the river, occurring due to human transformation.
These landscapes talk about the past of the river, the legacy of the city, the failing waste management plans, relocation and livelihood of the urban poor and loss of biodiversity. Images are also sequenced in a manner that helps one compare.
Cooum Lake
Kesavaram Anaicut where the Palar splits into two rivers.
Buildings and structures from water transport services that plied in the river.
Near the end of the river (near island grounds) where it joins the sea.
Paddy and other vegetable crops were sown at the start of the river. And the water for irrigation came from the Cooum lake and surrounding water bodies.
A little ahead of the rivers before it meets the sea. Near chintadripet MRTS station.
Cooum lake again
Almost the end (Near island grounds)
Cooum meets the sea.
Fin. Thanks for coming to my Cooum talk. Apologies if you found it long.
