The Syracuse @donovanjmcnabb thread begins here
The common theme you'll see is that he was fantastic on rollouts and on the move. A natural. This is his sophomore year
A ton of clutch throws in the games i sampled. It wasn't abnormal to see him get the majority of his throws on 3rd down.
Again as a sophomore, just improvising until he finds the open man.
He wasn't the best throwing deep statistically but he had great arm strength and touch
No QB was under pressure more often than McNabb, and it wasn't close. 47% of dropbacks were a pressure. Some of that is on him for extending plays but he made a lot happen too
Onto his junior year, he had an unreal ability to shake tacklers and get space to launch
Again
lol
like, c'mon now
Senior year, opener against Tee Martin and Tennessee, drops this dime on third down with 4 minutes left. Silly.
This game had several incredible moments where it's like damn this dude is a superstar
another extended play where he has a crazy launch
Every single game had examples of these lasers
He was a big play machine
again
they blew out Brady's Wolverines
3rd and 30 magic
His turnovers were a red flag for sure. Most were quite bad. And he had a bunch of fumbles on snap exchanges.
another bad pick
But he could also do this on blown snaps
rollout superstar
and he was again clutch
His placement had moments of brilliance
Helps he was so athletic too
Here's his final college TD.
Oddly enough he reminded me of Carson Wentz. Great athlete and physical talent. Huge plays out of structure and out of the pocket. Frustrating misses and decisions within the pocket. McNabb was great, and despite era-skewed numbers below, was justifiably QB1 in the 1999 draft
