Why my family is moving out of Kuyera/Shashamane (& why your family shld consider leaving Oromia too)

1) The gov’t, rather than acknowledging its failure to protect citizens (repeatedly), is engaged in finger pointing; 2) Oromia officials that publicly use the Amhara (1)

demonizing term (Neftegna) are still in office; 3) The gov’t is deliberately watering down what happened; 4) Oromo elites have refused to denounce the atrocities and have intensified the misinformation; 5) The anti-neftegna rhetoric and propaganda has increased in the (2)

villages and towns across Oromia. Fliers are being distributed and extremely disturbing music meant to agitate the youth is being recorded on ground (terms like “Neftegna & diqala are the center of the message); 6) The mob has been primed & the security apparatus compromised (3)

If this doesn’t worry even the most skeptical of observers, I don’t know what will. It’s really up to use to do what we can to save lives. This is not an academic analysis. The demons of ethnic politics have come home to roost.

I keep on going back to the moment I first heard of an ethnic-based murder as a child 28 yrs ago. That night, we survived by hiding in a pit my dad dug in the garden. He saw the signs wks ahead and he was ready. I know I’m alive today b/c of that. What we see today is 1000x worse
