Alphonso Davies was born to Liberian parents in a refugee camp in Ghana.
His parents had fled Liberia to escape civil war.

Having spent the first five years of his life in Ghana, Alphonso Davies and his family relocated to Edmonton, Canada.

When the Vancouver Whitecaps academy asked to sign Davies, his mother refused because he was too young.
But the then-14-year-old convinced her to change her mind and was able to move to Vancouver.
