Get your WIP. Highlight every line of dialogue that alludes to something interesting/important about your worldbuilding, then erase it and replace it with an event that allows the characters to actually experience said elements in the plot instead of just talking about them
It is far less entertaining to hear someone tell the main character about the blooming yellow flowers at the bottom of the hill, and more interesting for her to trip + fall into a gleaming golden meadow and realize “Ah! There are flowers here”
This can help out with the second-act-struggle. Build minor conflicts around your worldbuilding. Allow your environment to seep into—or even to take over!—your main plot. Actually *tell the story you want to tell* and stop having chatacters chat about it. It’s boring.
Slapping important info into dialogue is easy, sure. You don’t have to think about interesting ways to employ your worldbuilding. But it cheapens the experience for the reader. If your entire novel is filled with more dialogue than experience, your book WILL be boring, I promise.
Don’t feel bad if your WIP suffers from this. It’s apparently a common problem, as at least 4 traditionally published books I’ve read recently suffer from this. Nobody knows everything. Just strengthen your writing and keep learning your craft! You’ll be fine 💗
