This week Government released the long-awaited Building Safety Bill in draft form. Our residents were hopeful this Bill would give them some hope for fire safety in the future & would put responsibility on the building owners...this does not seem to have happened... (1/7)
...We are concerned that the Building Safety Bill introduces the Building Safety Charge which leaseholders have to pay on top of their Service Charges. We understand this intends making costs transparent but this is yet another charge leaseholders are forced to suffer... (2/7)
...Government’s position seems to be that the new Building Safety Charge is separate to the unaffordable costs of fixing historic safety defects & we will work to ensure Government is held to its word... (3/7)
...Residents are rightly concerned that they seem to only be given 28 days to pay any Building Safety Charge. There are concerns that this echoes the tight deadline of demands which residents are currently receiving... (4/7)
...The draft Bill allows managing agents to appoint a Building Safety Manager for the bldg, with their salary being paid from the Building Safety Charge. Is this a full time job that residents should pay for? Shouldn’t buildings just be built safely in the first place?... (5/7)
...We understand the Select Committee has offered to scrutinise the draft Bill & we believe this is the best course of action for our residents as this will allow proper consultation. We’ll continue to document our residents’ concerns & feed these back to Govt accordingly...(6/7)
...We also found out this week that circa 1,400 buildings have now registered for the ‘first come first served’ £1bn Fund & we repeat our demand that Govt increases the size & scope of the Fund & ensures remediation monies are distributed at speed. (7/7)
