I know many are starting univeristy soon and I just thought I’d make this thread on how to get through 1st year by juggling you studies, social life, health, mental health and spirituality.
(1/11) do NOT think you need to feel the pressure of doing what everyone is doing just to fit in. E.g. clubbing, drinking, smoking, partying, sex. I promise you it’s so easy to get through uni without having to do any of these things and still make amazing friends.
(2/11) do NOT let yourself detach yourself from God. It’s going to be hard because we live in a secular generation. Try joining religious societies, to assist you. I joined ISOC and it was the best decision of my life Alhamdulillah. Just don’t forget the Almighty!
(3/11) When you feel lonely you can FaceTime friends/ family, give yourself a getaway break back to your home. But remember God is with you. There is no situation where you are experiencing alone, Allah is always with you.
(4.1/11)make sure you are eating your 3 meals a day. It’s hard to learn to continue to cooking when you keep burning your food🤣 but once you get the hang of it promise you it’s ok.
(4.2/11) There’s are so many tik toks, cook books, online recipes, YouTube videos, snapchat accounts on quick and easy meals that are actually tasty.
(5.1/11) LOOK AFTER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH ‼️ I cannot reiterate or emphasis how IMPORTANT this is. I’ve seen and herd Uni students committing suicide because they could not cope 😔 it’s normal for your mental health to fluctuate, but it’s how you handle it, is vital.
(5.2/11) I can go on forever about mental health I think I’ll create a thread on how to handle mental health in university. ‘Like’ if you would like that. But a few tips are; go for a walk, speak to someone, do something you ENJOY to take your mind out of the box.
(6/11) be financially smart. I’m Ngl I was really irresponsible at first. But once I created a budget plan and knew how to spend wisely I was ok, even without a part time job. BUT onto the next thread
(6.2/11) if you can, get a part time job! I promise you, you will be just fine if you get a part time job alongside your S.F and knowing how to spend wisely.
(6.3/11)some financial tips; create a budget plan, download the app monzo! (This app changed my life) be AWARE of your spending habits. I know some people don’t like asking for help (like me 😅) but it’s ok to ask for help when you really need it. Think about yourself!
(7.1/11) remember why you’re at uni in the first place. So many students tend to forget because they get mixed up in having fun. Which is ok! Make sure you do have fun but also balance your social life with your education.
(7.2/11) Yes first year you can be more lenient towards the fun but it’s a great time to start getting yourself into the habit of working in routine in preparation for 2nd year.
(7.3/11) go to your lectures! You might think it’s pointless but at time to time they say pretty important stuff plus you can ask them to elaborate on points you don’t understand. Don’t allow yourself to fall behind, catch up! (I think I’m gonna make a thread on this)
(8/11) do your readings! Reading is such an underrated hobby, it hold so much knowlege. This is why lecturers emphasis on readings! I promise you, you will understand a topic more once you read the essential reading. But read wisely and timely. (Will be on a thread)
(9/11) remember health is wealth. If you know your body is not feeling 10/10 seek help! Tell a parent/ guardian or someone. Sign yourself up to the local G.P. In uni we forget to maintain our health Because our parents do it all for us😅 but you’ll regret it if it gets worse.
(10.1/11) friends. Making the RIGHT friends is SO important. These are the people that will influence you on the right/wrong path. So be cautious of who you allow into your circle. Be selective.
(10.2/11) make friends that boost your energy, make you feel good, help you in the times of your need, push you to go to your lectures and actually listen and work hard after. Don’t fall into the wrong crowd Becasue I promise you it will effect your mental Health and studies
(11.1/11) finally enjoy uni! Have fun with it, if your doing a subject you are passionate about, you will find the fun side of it. If you have a willingness to learn mentality you will get though Uni so much more smoothly.
(11.2/11) But remember there will always be obstacles in life. And that’s ok, it about learning a lesson from these obstacles. Love your course and your course will love you ❤️
I hope this thread helps at least someone 🙂 If you need me to elaborate, or speak to feel free to DM me. I might create threads on certain ones if anyone would like me to elaborate. Because twitter doesn’t let me expand my knowlege 😭 have a blessed day & stay happy and well ✌🏽
