Breast Density is often Hereditary
I don't have a daughter. If I did, I'm damn sure I'd want her to be told about her #Breastdensity
Stop playing with women's lives, advise Ultrasound for those with #Densebreasts @IMT_latest @DonnellyStephen @alankellylabour
Mammograms miss up to 50% of Breast Cancers in women with very Dense Breasts.
It missed mine!
If I had ever been told I had #Densebreasts I would have had a Breast Ultrasound every time. My Cancer would have been found earlier, node negative better prognosis
My Mammograms 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 ALL showed I had Extremely Dense Breasts My GP knew Radiologists knew but I didn't know because they didn't tell me
Breast Density is not palpable and (Mammographic) Breast Density can only be determined by Mammogram
Breast Density masks Breast Cancer. It is an independent risk factor for Breast Cancer. Therefore women with Dense Breast Tissue are mitigated against and put in the way of significant harm when their Radiology results are not revealed to them in full
http://Beingdense.com  was establised in 2016 to increase awareness and education in relation to Breast Density and associated Breast Cancer and Screening risks
We co-hosted the first ever Mammographic Breast Density Seminar in June 2019 with @BREAST_PREDICT
On 10th June 2019 the wonderful Prof Fidelma Flanagan, consultant Radiologist and Clinical Director BreastCheck, Eccles Street told the Seminar @RCSI_Irl that a Mammogram was 'not the best screening tool for women with Dense Breasts'
Again, women do not know this because they are not told.
When and if a woman's Screening Mammogram determines that she has Dense Breasts, she is not told with her results. Isn't it really bizarre given that a Breast Cancer could be developing, undetected
Women found to have Dense Breasts on Mammogram imaging need to be routinely told AND advised to have a Supplemental Breast Ultrasound Let's do what Breast Screening is intended to do
Detect #BreastCancer as early as possible, even in #Densebreasts
#TellWomen
Breast Density can mask Breast Cancer and often does which is why http://Beingdense.com  advocates all women be informed of their personal Mammographic Breast Density as determined by their Screening Mammogram #bccww #bcsm @BreastCancerIre @med_indonews
