I find that riding a cargo bike (especially with kid seats) seems to make me more approachable to folks who are new to biking or curious about getting started.

This morning the woman riding behind me asked if I was going downtown and could I show her the way.
I was, so I did. I turned my podcast off and we had a great chat, riding together for ~5 miles. I gave her pointers on the tricky parts of the route, noted where alternatives exist, told her about some places to get advice on routes if she needed it.
She's riding again after a years long break. She was nervous about the route but decided to just go for it and ask for help if she needed it. We talked about the challenges of biking in the city and the challenges of working from home with kids.
She thanked me several times for being so helpful but I didn't know how to tell her that having the chance to help her and enjoy a chat on the ride in totally made my morning.

One of my favorite parts of biking is having those moments of connection.
