an entire class of people have confused “my views are slightly less acceptable to young and/or cool people” with “censors are preventing me from speaking my mind” to the extent that they functionally live in a different reality
how can we possibly engage with people who don’t see the obvious conflict between their supposed silencing and the fact that they’re complaining about being silenced in national media outlets? sincerely, I worry that their brains are actually damaged
the truth is that mainstream media has vastly more space for reactionary conservative viewpoints than progressive left-wing ones. if you couch your bigotry in the right language, you can still have a prestigious, well-paid career writing solely about racial craniology
pump out article after article on trans children being victims of a fetish cult and the only thing approaching censorship you’ll receive is people pointing out your prejudice and dismantling your “journalism” with actual facts
at some point they’re not even angry about receiving criticism, they’re angry that the criticism is *right*, that reality doesn’t match their op-eds and their readers now have the ability to point that out
which brings me back to the “different reality” thing
anyway, the real censorship is that you can’t tweet “newspaper columnists should be put down like rabid dogs except without the mercy you show to rabid dogs” without a caveat of some kind
