i think sorting by kudos is a good way to dip your toes into a fandom. you're starting with a fandom's bread and butter - it's a way to figure out what you like w/these characters, and what you don't like

but, y'know, kudos really DOESN'T equal quality OR enjoyment. i've been around long enough to be able to say that some of the works with the most kudos in the fandom kind of suck, for me, personally. you might not enjoy what's considered the "most popular"
