What he did while in incarceration is nothing short of another great story. Many don't know about it.

While in jail Arnab taught his fellow inmates.
Soon, he was one of the most popular teachers in Presidency Jail, Kolkata.
He then decided to complete his Graduation and Masters and enrolled for the Open University, a facility available to jail inmates.
He scored top marks in both

For his Masters, he enrolled at the Indira Gandhi University to study History. He completed the course with 70% aggregate, a very high marks by any standards. I never thought he will be able to score more than me in Humanities because I was always better than him.

With an eye on a PhD, Arnab Dam then started studying for SET, the entrance exam to teach at Bengal colleges as an Assistant Professor.
He cleared SET in his first attempt.

Arnab then started preparing for NET or National Eligibility Test which will automatically make him eligible to do a PhD. It is an online exam.
The jail officials took him to the test venue late and he wasn't allowed entry inside.
He was advised to appear for the exam next year.

Alleging that he was deliberately taken late to the examination hall, Arnab started a fast unto death in jail.
But nothing could be done as the exam was already over and Arnab was advised to appear next year.

Arnab withdrew his fast later as the minister assured him that his grievance will be looked into and that the state will extend all possible help to ensure that he gets to complete his PhD in history.

Arnab has immersed himself into academics where he rightfully belongs.
I am sure he will complete his PhD. He has selected Environmental History as his topic. His research will focus on studying the correlation between environment and the impact it had had on the local population
