Why I don't want to say trans women are women (thread)
The reason I'm reluctant to say trans women are women is because I don't want certain opportunities and spaces catered for women to be taken by trans women. Women (especially black women) already have little opportunity.
If we call trans women, women, then we'd have to share the few grants, scholarships, quotas/employment opportunities, representation, sports/competitions etc with men who are already privileged with these opportunities the moment they are born male.
Women still face discrimination in pay and employment while men dominate in every sphere. Now you expect women to step aside and allow men who transition into women to be given the little we have?
Black, especially darkskin black women are rarely ever shown on television and media. We allowed biracial women to come into our spaces and take many of our opportunities and represent us by falsly identifying them as black, now you want us to do the same with trans women?
Do you know how rediculous and audacious it is to call for a trans woman to play, Storm, a huge role meant for a biological, darkskin woman, knowing that darkskin women rarely get these opportunities. How far will you go to erase black women?
How can you tell biowomen, like Halle Berry, that they can't play trans roles when they don't live through your experience & because it takes away opportunities from trans while simultaneously trying to take away roles meant for black women to give to trans?
Also, look what happened with sports. We allowed trans women to compete in female sports, now they're completely obliterating biological women in our own spaces. Taking away scholarship opportunities and spaces on our teams. Does that seem right to you?
Black women's opportunities are slim to none. We are literally given CRUMBS. We shared our crumbs with biracials (an already privileged group) now we have to share with men, an extremely privileged group, just bcuz they identify as women? Can you not understand how wrong that is?
If we keep giving and giving, soon black women will be left with nothing! I'm all down for repecting trans and calling them by their preferred pronouns but I refuse to have to share the little opportunities we have or create fror ourselves. Create your own spaces & opportunities!
Those calling me transphobic for stating that trans women were born men, and stating this thread is "dangerous" What you need to be doing is teaching men to not hate and kill people just because of their sex and preference, instaed of trying to convince them trans women are women
If you have to convince people and yourselves that trans women are real women in order to openly love and respect them, then YOU are the transphobic one. You should be teaching ppl to not judge others for their sexual preference instaed of trying to rewrite science and biology.
