This is festival of Gratitude
Nagadevatas converted the barren land of Tulunadu( considered as Parashurama shristi) to fertile land by bringing treasure and fertile soil from Patalaloka

In the process they were injured. To treat their injuries Turmeric is applied ( Our ancestors knew medicinal value of Turmeric)and express gratitude they are remembered on Shravana Shudhha Panchami
