101 — TRIGGER WARNINGS.

what are they and how to use them:
A LONG BUT VERY IMPORTANT THREAD.
this thread is directed towards everybody but mostly concept writers. WE DO NOT KINK SHAME HERE. but we have to be responsible with the content that’s being created for everyone’s well being. if you have any additions, qrt them and i’ll link at the end of the thread.
note that I AM NOT A PSYCHOLOGIST OR MENTAL HELTH CONSELOUR so this thread pretends to educate purely in the use of trigger warnings in nsfw concept writing.

now, let’s begin.
𝐢. WHAT IS A TRIGGER?

note that positive triggers do exist. but i’m going to focus on the negative ones.

a trigger: is a reminder of a past trauma. This reminder can cause a person to feel overwhelming sadness, anxiety, or panic. It may also cause someone to have flashbacks.
a flashback: a vivid, often negative memory that may appear without warning. It can cause someone to lose track of their surroundings and “relive” a traumatic event.

that said. the word TRIGGER is not meant to be used LIGHTLY. it’s not ok when you use
TW to list what the concept is going to be about or what kinks are you exploring in it. it’s not ok because you’re belittling TRAUMA.
𝐢𝐢. WHAT DO WE USE TO TALK ABOUT CONTENT?

you use: content warnings. ‘cws.’

CW: flags with information about content, to be used at the discretion of the person who encounters them.
𝐢𝐢𝐢. WHEN DO WE USE TRIGGER WARNINGS?

tw: common triggers for panic attacks and related experiences.

although people can get triggered from different things, YOUR KINK WILL MOST LIKELY BE A CONTENT WARNING NOT A TRIGGER TO PAST TRAUMA.
𝐢𝐯. I STILL DONT GET THE DIFFERENCE.

in a nutshell:

Content warning means the media discusses or mentions sensitive content. For example an article about sexual assault.

Trigger warning means graphic descriptions or depictions.
example:

tw: murder, death.
cw: blasphemy, implied... anything.

tw: body fluids, guns, murder, rape.
cw: omorashi, gun play, cnc.

the first ones are common triggers from past trauma that can cause a panic attack, the second ones are your kinks.
again: people get triggered for different things, i know there are people that kinks trigger them too but by general rule—we use trigger warnings for common triggers from traumatic events.

where: CONCEPTS, PICTURES, GIFS, VIDEOS, ANYTHING.
𝐯. FORMAT.

there’s a reason why we put trigger warnings. that’s because people mute those words and they don’t see the content that displays them. that’s why PLEASE pay attention to the following instructions.
a. do not use special fonts in your tws and cws ever. it doesn’t matter how cool you think it looks. if you do the word won’t be muted and it will display on the person’s tl. also android users won’t be able to read it.

no:
𝐓𝐖: 𝐌𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑

yes:
𝐓𝐖: MURDER.
b. do not censor them under any reason. it doesn’t matter what trigger or content warnings you’re talking about. it’s the same reason. people mute those words it’s an automatic algorithm if you censor it, it’ll pop on that person’s tl.

no:
tw: r*pe

yes:
tw: rape
c. be careful how you format it. for the same reason that it’s an algorithm the word should be isolated on its own. otherwise, it’ll pop on the person’s tl.

no:
tw:kidnapping

yes:
tw: kidnapping.
d. FOR CONCEPTS: leave the cover for your trigger and content warnings so o people don’t accidentally read it before reading your triggers.

first tweet:

CW: CNC.

second tweet.
- beginning of concept -

for one tweet concepts, just make sure it’s the first thing they read.
𝐯𝐢. FINALLY: DO YOUR RESEARCH.

if you have read it all the way here, congratulations! that’s what you’re doing. BDSM and kinking is further than just having fun. BE RESPONSIBLE AND BE RESPECTFUL!

pls share to make that change.
