I’m @JesseDavidFox, and welcome to #vulturemovieclub, Click Edition. Click is Adam Sandler's movie about the relationship between predatory capitalism and our fear of death. Also, it has very big fart joke. It was nominated for 1 Oscar. For what? You’ll have to wait to find out.
Last fall, I ranked Click #1 in my very long ranking of every Adam Sandler movie. At the time, I wrote this: https://www.vulture.com/article/best-adam-sandler-movies-ranked.html
Click was a super, giant megahit. It was the 11th highest grossing film of 2006. Here is what it beat out domestically:
Let's start. To keep everyone on the same page story-wise, I am going to call out where we are on in terms of Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat beat sheet. OPENING IMAGE, Michael sleeps on the couch surrounded by his work.
Here is how Adam decided to do click
How Adam pitched Click to director Frank Coraci
This goes for you watching along as well
Click has at least 3 pretty problematic moments. This is probably the worst, as is the case with most Adam Sandler movie's Rob Schneider scene.
SET-UP Michael continues to choose work over spending time with his family, hoping that once he becomes partner things will change.
Sandler on casting Kate Beckinsale
me, changing the channel to watch the All-Stars finale after this
This was a trick Henry Winkler had been doing for years before Click
This is Nick Swardson's first Adam Sandler movie. He is very funny in it. Sandler loves when other people can be funnier than him in his movies. Click has a number of very funny people in two-scene roles
CATALYST Michael gets a "universal" remote
tfw you say the name of the movie
Kate Beckinsale has 6 different hairstyles in the movie Click. Here is #1
This is the DEBATE stage of the film, where Michael figures out how he can use the remote and then how he wants to.
Did Click just pass the Bechdel Test?
Jennifer Coolidge being unfunny onscreen...
one of the funnier small jokes in the movie Click
Life finds a way and Christopher Walken finds a way to dance in every movie he's in. That includes, the movie Click
"James does a lot of voiceover work."
Rachel Dratch is in FIVE Adam Sandler movies. She is great and different in everyone. If you can guess them all without looking it up, I will send you a DVD of the movie Click*

*No, I won't
One of the young girls in this flashback is Kate Beckinsale's daughter. FUN FACT about the movie Click
BREAK INTO ACT TWO
Again, please feel free to go
If this is the first Adam Sandler movie you've ever seen, his treatment of that little O'Doyle kid sure seems needlessly cruel
tfw you're wearing a t-shirt that says "BASKETBALL CITY."
Funnily enough, Basketball City is the name of the next Safdie Brothers movie
normal way to talk to your father
Kate's line readings in this scene A+!
One time, at an old job, I rode an elevator with Kate Beckinsale. She asked me to press 2. She proceeded to get off on the second floor. I got off on the third floor. End of story. Back to the movie Click!
Who's ready for THE PROMISE OF THE PREMISE!?!?!?!?!
Sometimes Sandler goes full movies without doing anything funny, instead acting as a sort of ringleader. Beyond bringing it in dramatic scenes (MORE LATER), Sandler was able to legitimately seem like he's having fun throughout the movie Click.
The purse he buys her is truly hideous. I didn't screenshot it, because I didn't want to muck up your feeds.
Kate hair #2!
on Linger
"I'm so horny now!"
This is not what the Oscar nomination was for, but it should've been
Rain is a visual motif in the movie Click. It's meant to communicate that the movie Click is actually very sad.
says IMDB, Lauren Graham and Drew Barrymore were considered for the role of Donna in the movie Click but passed. I think I read somewhere Jennifer Aniston also was asked
Michael clicks to fast forward until his promotion, which means we are at the MIDPOINT. The movie is about to get sadder and sadder and sadder and sadder and sadder and MORE LIKE ADAM SADDER k bye
Another problematic moments happens here at the promotion party. It's sort of a lot to get into while the movie is still playing, but I'm happy to discuss later. You know the one.
Hair style #3! In the year or so since he time jumped, Donna apparently decided to wear her hair straight.
I learned how to put text on images for this
feel free to use this
the movie Click was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Makeup
Watch Adam get fit for his Click mask
Sorry, I got distracted. Kate hair #4 and 5
I have no proof of this, but I like to think Judd recommended Jonah Hill to Adam after Jonah shot his cameo in the 40 Year Old Virgin the year before
BAD GUY CLOSES IN. Who is the bad guy? Oh you know it's death!
This is the most memorable joke in Click. Which makes me think about why Click is so much less discussed than other Sandler movies. Frank's reasoning is that it never really played on TV like other Sandler movies. I have to imagine it's because of how sad it's about to get
This is what the movie Click thought offices in the future would look like. It's close, except the fact that there are people there.
In interviews, Sandler would complain about shooting the scene where he says goodbye to his father. Saying it was a terrible day at work. (Reminder his own father just died.) But it's hard to argue there's a better acted scene in his career.
I know this is when the movie gets REALLY sad, but Walken's outfit here though
OMG THAT'S NEXT YEAR TELL YOUR FATHER'S YOU LOVE THEM
there's no reason to believe this is not what wedding dresses are going to look like in the near future
Kate's final hair style of the movie
It doesn't make sense that Dolores O'Riordan to be there, or at least not in age makeup, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
Michael sees his daughter call her step-father "dad" and has a heart attack. You might say ALL IS LOST
I've watched the movie Click, I don't know, 15 times. I've watched it twice TODAY. And, yet, here I am, once again, crying.
It's time to go...BREAK INTO ACT 3
Scholastic, Inc. almost sued Adam Sandler over Click because of its similarities to an R.L. Stine story. Ultimately, it was decided it was probably a coincidence!
It was just a dream. Not a dream, Kate's hair
Adam Sandler movies tend to have lessons in them for his younger fans. What is different with Click is it was Adam himself who learned the lesson. It changed every movie he made after.
"Who wants to have a pillow fight?" "Yaaaaaay" The final image finds Michael, back at home, but with completely different priorities than he started. That, my friends, is a hero's journey.
That was the movie Click. I have been @JesseDavidFox. There was one screenshot thing I have been excited for all day and then when the scene came I think I was feeding my cat or something and I missed it. So, I'll close with it. Thank you. Good night. Love, Jesse
