Meditating has been a huge part of my life for the past 5 years.

It has helped me:

- Achieve clarity.
- And focus on what’s truly important.

That's why I want to share with you a few tips on how to start meditating.

1 - PRIVACY

Choose a place where you can expect privacy.

Even though meditation can literally be done anywhere. It's best to do it somewhere you have privacy.

Let anyone in your house know that you will be meditating so do not disturb.
Put your phone on do not disturb, and make sure nothing is your way.
2 - FEEL COMOFORTABLE

It always helps to feel as comfortable as you can when meditating.

You don't have to sit up straight with your legs crossed like a monk.

Loosen up your body, and relax.

You could choose to sit against the wall, or lay flat.
3 - NOT TOO RELAXED

Ok but don't get too relaxed.

Meaning avoid places that will make you sleepy, like the couch and your bed.

Your body associates these places with sleep mode, and you'll probably end up falling asleep.
You want to minimize the risk of falling asleep as much as possible.
4 - TIME & PLACE

Meditate at the same time and place every day.

When you do this your body will make it a habit of getting into meditation mode at 9 a.m. when you sit down on your yoga matt.

The goal is to do this consistently until it's pure instinct.
5 - DON'T GET CAUGHT UP

Don't get caught up on how you'll meditate or where you'll meditate.

Just do it.

This is why I recommend meditating at the same time and place every day.

So you don't waste time finding the right time and place every time you meditate.
6 - DO IT WITH A LOVING ATTITUDE

Your mind will wander while meditating.

When it does, make sure you accept your thoughts with a loving attitude.

They are a part of you but don't define you.

Accept them and gently let them go.
This teaches you to let go of your thoughts and focus on what's in front of you.

Because when you focus on every thought rushing through your head, you loose track of what's important.
7 - YOUR BREATHING

The easiest way to meditate is by focusing on your breathing.

Close your eyes and turn your attention to your breath.

Feel as it rushes through your nose, down your throat, into your lungs, and back out.

Every time you exhale you are releasing tension.
Try counting as you breathe.

"one" as you inhale, then "two" as you exhale.

Repeat this until the count of 10 and start again.
8 - I CAN'T STAY STILL

Sitting still could be extremely hard, I've been there too.

What you can do is, start off with 5 minutes of meditation your first week.

10 minutes your second week.

15 minutes your third week.

20 minutes your fourth week.

And so on.
Affirmations help as well.

Tell yourself that you will sit still.

"I will sit still. this is my main focus right now. Nothing matters but this moment right now"

After you meditate for 2-3 weeks you'll gradually improve at staying still.
