The technology behind the washing machine is interesting, but there is no way it will take off because it consumes too much energy compared to the tried and tested hand-cranked washers
Airplanes are cool, but nobody will want to burn tons of jet fuel to cross the Atlantic when a socially-responsible kayak requires no fuel whatsoever.
While steel-reinforced houses are more likely to survive winter than tepees, the future surely belongs to tepees whose manufacture consumes a fraction of the energy consumed by wasteful steel mills.
Similarly, Bitcoin will never take off because it consumes far more energy than the hand-cranked central bank-treasury technology that gives us government money.
Technology advances by utilizing more energy to serve human needs, saving human time & producing good infinitely better in many ways. If a technology is valuable to people it& #39;ll be worth the extra energy expenditure & more energy can be produced for it.
I highly recommend @AlexEpstein& #39;s wonderful book, The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels to get a sober perspective on the importance of modern energy sources, and what our lives would be like without them.
