I have woken up tonight to find a sudden #MedBikini movement.

Whether you post a picture of yourself in a bikini is your decision. Whether it is “unprofessional” is up for debate.

But that does not excuse personal attacks and abuse. Nobody deserves that.
In academia we all make mistakes and put forward ideas and concepts that turn out to be wrong or which need amendment. Part of this process is careful review, analysis, debate and constructive feedback. It does not include doxxing, hatred, personal threats or vilification.
There will be follow up & there will be changes I’m sure. @JVascSurg will put out a response shortly and take a look at their review processes. The authors are not bad people and did not mean to harm or offend, but they certainly missed the mark in this paper. Time to let it go.
Apology from authors. https://twitter.com/jeffsiracuse/status/1286664209460277248?s=21 https://twitter.com/jeffsiracuse/status/1286664209460277248
And also the medical student who probably has the lowest level of responsibility. https://twitter.com/twtcheng/status/1286677536576016386?s=21 https://twitter.com/twtcheng/status/1286677536576016386
By all means debate and criticise the concept methodology conclusions, and the bias, stereotyping and strict view of professionalism that is assumed here. Just don’t make it personal and nasty. Authors are people with feelings too.
And before you criticise it, please read the article first, rather than all the meta-tweets on #MedBikini. Before it disappears. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jvs.2019.10.069
This tweet highlights the real issue at play here. 100% agree except that I’m from Oz and have no idea what the Stark Act is. Read 👇 https://twitter.com/kmlumpkins/status/1286429920462286848?s=21 https://twitter.com/kmlumpkins/status/1286429920462286848
And this thread from @nlliang who is in that cohort is definitely worth reading. https://twitter.com/nlliang/status/1286745320408457216?s=21 https://twitter.com/nlliang/status/1286745320408457216
